Light: Reflected and from Within
Please join me for my first public exhibit of this many works. I’m presenting three series.
“Gold on Paper” explores the use of recycled paper in sculpture. First, I guide the sculptures with my hands, and then let the paper’s inherent properties take over, resulting in the creation of organic forms. I am drawn to earth-friendly and body-friendly media. Yet gold fascinates me, from its symbolism in icon art to lavish of palace rooms. With its complex and elaborate history, gold is the polar opposite of humble recycled paper. For me, the juxtaposition of these two mediums prompts an internal dialogue about societal inequities.
“Surfaces” - Layers of mixed media tumble and flow over one another — each time differently, as do ocean waves. In one expression with plaster and acrylic, all else is buried. In another with metallic plasters and acrylic, the colors build. Washes influence, even change what’s below, and enhance the textures further.
“Portraits” - Earth colors capture faces lit by an inner light. In these portraits, you can rediscover your own childhood light. You can be reminded of the universal childhood desire to make the world a better place, and be inspired to let your light shine. Explore how wisdom and whimsy can coexist in the face of a child.
